Olathe, Kan. - Former State Rep. Patricia Lightner, Republican candidate for Congress in the 3rd District of Kansas, is calling on the Kansas Senate to override Governor Mark Parkinson's veto of HB 2115. HB 2115 would end the abortion reporting abuse that has allowed late-term abortions to flourish in Kansas for over a decade, despite a ban on abortions of viable unborn children.
"The Kansas House acted with courage in overriding the Governor's veto of this important legislation. I call upon the Kansas Senate to follow suit. The sanctity of life and rule of law are at stake," said Lightner, who during her three terms in the Kansas House, earned a 100% pro-life voting record.
To override the veto, proponents of HB 2115 need to get 27 of 40 votes in the Senate. Lightner urged her supporters to contact their Senator at 1-800-432-3924.
"Those who believe in basic moral principles and the concept of the rule of law need to contact their Senator and urge them to override the veto. This is a time that calls for action, and wavering Senators need to hear from the people," she said.
Lightner also praised the work of those who have been leading the way on HB 2115.
"If not for pro-life leaders such as Rep. Lance Kinzer, the milestone in the House would never have occurred. I want to thank Lance and his fellow colleagues for their courageous work on behalf of a culture of life and for upholding Kansas law."
