Lightner: Kansas Should Join Health Care Lawsuit
Urges Kansas Attorney General to Act Immediately

Olathe, Kan – Former State Rep. Patricia Lightner, Republican candidate for Congress in the 3rd District of Kansas, issued a statement urging the State of Kansas to join the lawsuit filed against the recently passed-and-signed ObamaCare bill by at least 14 states, including Alabama, Florida, Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and the neighboring states of Colorado and Nebraska.

“The State of Kansas should not sit idly by while the rights of Kansans are being trampled upon by this new act. At least 14 other states are coming together in a show of unity against this takeover, including our neighbors in Colorado and Nebraska. Kansas should join this effort immediately,” Lightner said.

Lightner urged Attorney General Steve Six, a Democrat, to set his party affiliation aside in favor of principle.

“ObamaCare represents a fundamental attack on the rights of the states and the rights of the people. I strongly urge Attorney General Six to side with Kansans and not the Governor who appointed him,” she said.

Lightner, a former State Representative and enforcement attorney with the Federal Aviation Administration and litigation attorney with the Resolution Trust Corporation, said that several aspects of the legislation should be challenged. “I strongly believe that a federal mandate requiring all individuals to purchase health insurance falls outside of Congress' enumerated powers in the United States Constitution. It also places an undue burden on states in direct violation of their sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment,” said Lightner.

Lightner said Kansans should expect their leaders not to sit on the sidelines at this critical point in history.

“Kansas needs to lead or follow – but getting out of the way should not be an option.”
