Olathe, KS – Former State Representative Patricia Lightner, candidate for Congress in the 3rd District of Kansas, announced today that she will commence her door-to-door campaign this week.
“In the last several weeks since I first announced my decision to run for Congress, I’ve heard a tremendous amount of background chatter about how vulnerable Dennis Moore is, and how we need a candidate willing to do the work to defeat him next November,” said Lightner. “However, the fact is he has won six straight elections, and talking won’t get it done. It’s time to walk the walk.”
Lightner, who has been aggressively been campaigning for six weeks, says that she disagrees with those who say it’s still too early to campaign.
“Dennis Moore is an entrenched incumbent who won by a wide margin just 11 months ago. The primary itself is just 10 months away,” Lightner said. “If we’re going to defeat him, we have to start now by communicating directly to voters about our message of limited government, economic freedom, and individual liberty. That means walking to door to door nearly everyday until next November,”
Lightner added that walking door to door is her favorite part of campaigning.
“It’s great because you are listening to people who don’t care about inside political baseball, but are living their lives, paying their taxes, and simply want a representative in Congress who understands they want to keep more of their own money, have control of their own health care choices, and want government out of the way of their business,” she said.
Lightner said she is most looking forward to walking in precincts that have consistently voted for Dennis Moore.
“The only way we are going to win is to convince people who have voted for Moore about why it’s time for a new direction. In doing so, we must have the courage to campaign on our principles and engage voters one by one about our ideas -- while also listening carefully to their feedback,” she said.
Lightner said her door-to-door effort is the central strategy in her effort to defeat Dennis Moore.
“I talk to people everyday who say they’ve never had a politician stop by their door, much less a candidate for Congress. That’s going to change, and I can’t wait to get started.”
