Olathe, KS – Former State Representative Patricia Lightner, the Republican frontrunner for Congress in the 3rd District of Kansas, has issued a statement denouncing Dennis Moore for his support and looming YES vote for HR 3962, the Nancy Pelosi Health Care Reform Bill.
“Dennis Moore’s support of Nancy Pelosi’s 1,990-page guide to socialized medicine stands in stark contrast to the conservative blue-dog image he has portrayed the last 12 years. Though not surprising, I had hopes that he would side with his fellow blue dogs who are lining up in opposition to the Pelosi plan. By siding with the Speaker and the most extreme liberal elements of the Democratic Party, my opponent has made it clear that he no longer represents the 3rd District, but is simply an automatic yes vote for whatever Speaker Pelosi wants,” said Lightner.
Lightner went on to issue a dire warning about the consequences of the Pelosi/Moore legislation:
“HR 3962 is not about health care reform, it is about government control and crippling private insurance. It is socialized medicine, period. The Pelosi/Moore plan imposes a one-size fits all approach that increases taxes on small business, penalizes everyday Americans for their individual choices, dramatically expands government, increases the deficit, and will end up destroying the private health insurance market. With the deficit already in the trillions, and the American economy at a standstill, passage of this bill will result in a further loss of jobs at a time of record unemployment. What my opponent supports is the exact opposite of what we need to improve health care, revive our economy and create jobs.”
Lightner also announced that she supports the alternative health care plan put forth by House Republicans.
“The House Republican plan is a common sense, free-market approach to achieving real health care reform. It addresses many of the solutions I’ve been talking about along the campaign trail – such as ending junk lawsuits through tort reform, enhancing medical savings accounts, permitting small businesses to pool together to purchase health insurance, allowing the purchase of health care across state lines, and expanding and improving high-risk access pools so all Americans can obtain affordable health insurance. I am proud to support it,” she said.
Lightner also announced her strong support for the Kansas Health Care Freedom Amendment, sponsored by State Senator Mary Pilcher Cook, which will constitutionally preserve the right and freedom of Kansans to provide for their health care.
“I stand in support of the Kansas Health Care Freedom Amendment, which reaffirms the rights of Kansans under the Tenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. It will allow Kansans to reject the strong arm of the federal government in regards to health care. We must preserve the principles of limited government, economic freedom, and individual liberty – and the Kansas Health Care Freedom Amendment does that,” said Lightner.
Lightner also plans to attend a rally in support of the Health Care Freedom Amendment at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 7 at the Shawnee City Hall.
Senator Mary Pilcher Cook issued a statement praising Lightner for her support of the Health Care Freedom Amendment.
“We need someone representing us in Congress who recognizes the ever-increasing encroachment of individual and states’ rights by the federal government,” said Pilcher Cook. “I am pleased to see that former Rep. Patricia Lightner would be a strong advocate for us. Her support shows she understands it is the people who should determine how best to govern our state, so we are not at the mercy of a distant and unaccountable federal agency.
